What a D-Max remap does
The D-Max is built to work: a 3.0 litre diesel, a tray or a canopy, and a towball that gets used. Isuzu calibrates the engine for every market and climate it sells into, so there is usable torque left in the factory map. A remap rewrites the fuel, boost and timing to suit how your D-Max is actually driven, whether that is a tradie's work ute, a weekend tourer or a van-towing family wagon.
We read your vehicle, write the tune for your exact engine and then verify it on our own chassis dyno under load. The factory map is saved first, so the tune is fully reversible. It is part of our diesel tuning in Adelaide, and the D-Max is one of the utes we see most often through the Lonsdale workshop.

A real D-Max result from our dyno

This is the sheet from a 2016 D-Max 3.0 auto with 198,736 km on the clock, tuned here on 18 May 2023. The blue line is how it arrived, the red line is after the remap, both run on the same Mainline dyno on the same day.
- Peak power at the wheels: 93.4 kW as it arrived, 123.8 kW after the tune.
- Peak torque (dyno-derived): 339.6 Nm as it arrived, 503.2 Nm after the tune.
- Where it shows on the road: the red line sits above the blue right through the speed range, which is the pull you feel towing and overtaking.
Wheel figures read lower than the engine figures in a brochure, because the dyno measures at the tyres. Every engine is a little different, so you get your own before and after sheet for your D-Max.
What D-Max owners notice after a tune
- Stronger low and mid-range torque for towing a van, boat or trailer, and for carrying a loaded tray or canopy up the southern hills.
- A more relaxed auto that holds its gear instead of hunting for a lower one under load.
- Sharper throttle response pulling away and merging, so the D-Max feels less lazy in traffic.
- Better real-world economy when driven sensibly, especially towing, because the engine works less hard for the same job.
- Monitored exhaust temperatures. We recommend an exhaust gas temperature (EGT) sensor so the engine stays protected on long climbs with a load on.
Which D-Max models we tune
- 2008 to 2012 D-Max with the 3.0 litre 4JJ1, the first generation sold here.
- 2012 to 2020 D-Maxwith the 4JJ1 3.0, the ute that built Isuzu's name with tradies and tourers.
- 2020 on D-Max with the 4JJ3 3.0, the current model.
- Mazda BT-50 from 2020, which shares the same Isuzu 3.0 litre engine, so the same tuning approach applies.
Some late-model ECUs are locked to flash tuning. Tell us the year and we will confirm the route for your D-Max: a remap where the ECU allows it, or a tested ECU=Shop module where it is locked, verified on the dyno either way.
Tune, suspension and canopy, matched together
A D-Max that tows and tours usually carries more than its factory spec ever planned for. That is why we set the tune, the suspension and the canopy up as one package. A Tough Dog or Dobinson suspension setup rated to the weight you carry, an SJS canopy colour-coded to the ute and a KickAss dual battery system for the fridge and lights all come from the same workshop that tunes the engine.
For a blocked diesel particulate filter on a road-registered D-Max, the right fix is our DPF clean from $550, which keeps it legal and roadworthy. Delete work is for off-road and competition vehicles only.

D-Max remap pricing
Custom ECU remapping starts from $1,495. The final figure depends on your D-Max's year and engine, whether it is a remap or a module for a locked ECU, and any supporting mods such as an EGT sensor. We quote your vehicle once we know how you use it, and loan cars are available on request while it is with us.
Custom ECU remapping, reversible, with a printed before and after dyno sheet. Final quote depends on your D-Max's year and engine.

Isuzu D-Max remap FAQs
On one 2016 D-Max 3.0 auto we tuned, peak power at the wheels went from 93.4 to 123.8 kW and torque from 339.6 to 503.2 Nm on our dyno. Your result depends on the engine, its condition and any supporting mods, and you get your own printed dyno sheet.
The 3.0 litre in every D-Max from 2008 on: the 4JJ1 up to 2020 and the 4JJ3 in the current model. The current Mazda BT-50 shares the same 3.0 litre Isuzu engine, so we tune those too.
Yes. We save the factory map before changing anything, so your D-Max can go back to standard at any time.
That is where owners notice it most. Most of the gain is low and mid-range torque, so a loaded D-Max pulls a van or a full tray up hills without hunting for gears, and the auto holds its gear with less work.
Every D-Max is tuned and verified live on our in-house Mainline chassis dyno under load, and you leave with the before and after sheet.
Custom ECU remapping starts from $1,495. The final figure depends on your D-Max's year and engine and any supporting mods, and we quote your vehicle once we know how you use it.
