What is 4x4 diesel tuning?
Tuning a 4WD diesel is not a single product. It is matching the ECU calibration to the way your vehicle is actually used, whether that is towing a van, loaded touring, or sand and hill work, and, where it helps, adding supporting hardware such as an intake, exhaust, EGT monitoring or transmission lock-up. This is part of our diesel tuning services.
A real custom tune beats an off-the-shelf chip or a remote mail-order file every time, because it is written for your engine, not a generic average. Common-rail diesel utes and wagons are the core of what we tune. Tell us how you use your 4WD and we will tell you what is worth doing.
More power, torque and economy for the way you use your 4WD
- Stronger low-down torque for towing caravans and boats and pulling loaded up hills without labouring.
- Smoother, more responsive throttle for touring and technical low-range work.
- Better fuel economy when driven sensibly, measured in real-world litres per 100km, not just peak power.
- Cooler, monitored EGTs. We recommend fitting an exhaust gas temperature sensor so the engine is protected.
- A complete package, not one part: the remap is matched to supporting mods so the gains are usable and safe, not just a dyno headline.

Tuned and verified on our in-house dyno
Every tune is written and load-tested live on our own chassis dyno. We see real airflow, fuelling and EGTs under load and dial the map to your specific vehicle, rather than flashing a one-size file and hoping. The factory map is saved first, so the vehicle can always be returned to stock.
We photograph the work and send you the images as proof of workmanship. We are an RAA Approved Repairer and all our work is fully guaranteed, with a 100% Result Guarantee and a 6-month or 10,000km service warranty on tunes.
What if your 4WD's ECU can't be remapped?
Some newer 4WDs have locked ECUs that cannot be safely remapped. In those cases we fit a piggyback or module solution instead. We are an authorised Uni-Chip dealer and an ECU=Shop modules for locked-ECU vehicles dealer and tuner, so your vehicle still gets a real, tested result. For the standard remap path, see ECU remapping.
4WD makes and models we tune
Every make, every model, light 4WDs through to heavier rigs. Popular utes and wagons we tune include the Ford Ranger ECU remap, the Toyota Hilux ECU remap, and the Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi Triton, Nissan Navara NP300, Mazda BT-50 and 200-Series LandCruiser (ask us about your model).

4x4 tuning pricing
The honest entry point is custom ECU remapping from $1,395. The final figure depends on your vehicle, whether supporting mods (an EGT sensor, exhaust, transmission lock-up) are included, and whether it is a remap or a module fit for a locked ECU. We will quote your 4WD once we know how you use it, and free loan cars mean a day off the 4WD is not a day off the road.
Custom ECU remapping, reversible. Final quote depends on your vehicle and supporting mods.
4x4 diesel tuning FAQs
Yes when driven sensibly. A custom tune optimises fuelling for how you actually drive, and many owners towing or touring see lower real-world consumption. The honest caveat: drive it hard and you will use more.
Yes. We save the factory map before any changes, so the vehicle can be returned to stock at any time.
Every tune is written and verified live on our in-house chassis dyno under load, never a generic remote file.
A correctly matched tune with EGT monitoring is safe. We fit an exhaust gas temperature sensor because over-fuelling without one can cause damage and void warranty on related repairs. All our work is guaranteed, with a 6-month or 10,000km service warranty on tunes.
Yes. Where a remap is not possible we fit a tested Uni-Chip or ECU=Shop module instead, so the vehicle still gets a real result.
DPF and EGR removal is offered for non-registered, off-road vehicles only. For a registered 4WD the legal path is a professional DPF clean, which we also do.
