What is dyno tuning?
A dyno (dynamometer) is a rolling road that holds your vehicle still while it is run under genuine load, so we can measure real power, torque, airflow, fuelling and exhaust gas temperatures and adjust the ECU calibration to suit. It is how a remap should be done. Dyno tuning in Adelaide on our own dyno means we prove the result rather than claim it. This is part of our diesel tuning services in Adelaide.
Contrast that with a remote mail-order file or a generic carpark flash, where nobody actually sees what the engine is doing. A real dyno tune is measured, verified and vehicle-specific. It is also how a proper ECU remapping job is written. Bring your diesel in and we will show you the numbers.
Why a dyno tune beats a generic file
- Real, measured gains. Power and torque proven on the dyno and printed on a graph, not a number off a brochure.
- A tune matched to your exact vehicle. Your engine, your mods, your fuel, dialled in under load, not a one-size file.
- Safer for the engine. Fuelling and exhaust gas temperatures (EGTs) are watched live, so the tune is set to make power without cooking the motor. We recommend fitting an EGT sensor, as over-fuelling without one can void warranty on related repairs.
- Repeatable and provable. A before-and-after dyno graph you keep, so you can see exactly what changed.
- Drivability, not just peak power. Throttle response, towing torque and economy tuned for how you actually drive, verified on the dyno across the rev range.
The printed dyno graph, proof you can keep
The tangible proof device is the printed dyno graph. Numbers measured under load and a graph you take home beat any claim, which is exactly why your gains are real and repeatable. You leave knowing what your vehicle made before and after, in black and white.

Tuned and verified on our own in-house dyno
Trusted Mechanical owns and runs its own chassis dyno in the Lonsdale workshop. The vehicle is strapped down and run under real load while the tune is written and verified on site, start to finish. We see actual airflow, fuelling and EGTs under load and dial the map to that specific vehicle, rather than flashing a file and hoping. The factory map is saved first, so the vehicle can be returned to stock at any time.
We photograph the work and send you the images, and we hand over the printed dyno graph. We are an RAA Approved Repairer and all our work is fully guaranteed, with a 100% Result Guarantee and a 6-month or 10,000km service warranty on tunes. A tune is often paired with a diesel clean for a full restoration.
What if your vehicle's ECU can't be remapped?
Some newer diesels have locked ECUs that cannot be safely remapped. In those cases we fit a piggyback or module solution instead and still tune and verify it on the dyno. We are an authorised Uni-Chip dealer and an ECU=Shop modules for locked-ECU vehicles dealer and tuner, so the vehicle still gets a real, measured result. For the standard remap path, see ECU remapping.
What we dyno tune
Every make, every model. Common-rail diesel utes and wagons are the core of what gets strapped to the dyno, from daily-driver towing rigs to built 4WDs. Popular vehicles we tune include the Ford Ranger ECU remap and the Toyota Hilux ECU remap, plus the Isuzu D-Max, Mitsubishi Triton, Nissan Navara NP300, Mazda BT-50 and 200-Series LandCruiser (ask us about your model). For the touring and towing package, see our 4x4 diesel tuning.

Dyno tuning pricing
The honest entry point is custom ECU remapping from $1,395, written and verified on the dyno. The final figure depends on your vehicle, whether supporting mods (an EGT sensor, exhaust) are involved, and whether it is a remap or a module fit for a locked ECU. We will quote your vehicle once we know what you are driving and what you want from it, rather than a fixed menu. Free loan cars mean a day on the dyno is not a day off the road.
Custom ECU remapping, written and verified on the dyno, reversible. Final quote depends on your vehicle and supporting mods.
Dyno tuning FAQs
Dyno tuning runs your vehicle under real load on a dynamometer so we can measure actual power, torque, fuelling and exhaust gas temperatures, then write the ECU tune to suit your exact vehicle, and hand you a printed graph of the result.
A real dyno. We own and run our own in-house chassis dyno in Lonsdale. Every tune is written and verified live under load, never a generic remote file flashed in a carpark.
Custom ECU remapping starts from $1,395. The final price depends on your vehicle and whether supporting mods like an EGT sensor are included; we quote once we know what you are driving.
Yes. We save your factory map before any changes, so the vehicle can be returned to stock at any time.
A correctly matched tune with EGT monitoring is safe. We fit an exhaust gas temperature sensor because over-fuelling without one can cause damage and void warranty on related repairs. All our work is guaranteed, with a 6-month or 10,000km service warranty on tunes.
It can when you drive sensibly. We tune fuelling for how you actually drive, and many owners towing or touring see lower real-world consumption. Drive it hard and you will use more.
Yes. Where a remap is not possible we fit a tested Uni-Chip or ECU=Shop module and still verify it on the dyno.
