What is a diesel carbon clean?
A diesel carbon clean restores a tired diesel chemically, in place, without pulling the engine apart. Diesel engines accumulate carbon and deposits everywhere old fuel, soot and oil vapour meet: the intake and inlet manifold, the EGR path, the injectors, the fuel system and the diesel particulate filter. Over time that robs power, lifts fuel use, raises smoke and exhaust gas temperatures, and trips warning lights.
A professional diesel clean removes those deposits chemically and mechanically, in place, restoring airflow, fuelling and the DPF's regeneration cycle, without the cost and risk of stripping or replacing major components. That is the difference between this and a bottle of additive tipped in the tank (a band-aid) or premature replacement (thousands of dollars). Common-rail diesel utes and wagons are the core of what we clean, and every job is done in-house and photographed.
Tell us the symptoms and we will tell you which clean your diesel actually needs. A blocked filter points to DPF cleaning, while lost power and economy is often carbon in the intake and injectors. Done well, a clean is genuine diesel performance restoration.

Our diesel cleaning services
Three cleans cover almost every tired diesel. Tell us the symptoms and we will point you to the right one, or combine them where a vehicle needs more than one.

DPF Cleaning from $550
Specialist DPF regeneration cleaning that unblocks a clogged or failing diesel particulate filter and restores its regeneration cycle, from $550, the legal alternative to a delete on a road vehicle.

Diesel Injector Cleaning
Ultrasonic and chemical injector cleaning plus a full fuel-system treatment that clears the diesel bug and restores a clean, even spray pattern for smoother running and better economy.

Elite Fuel Filter Kits
Elite 2-micron cast-alloy secondary fuel filter systems that catch the water and particulates the factory filter misses, protecting expensive common-rail injectors.

Intake and EGR carbon cleaning
On EGR-equipped diesels, recirculated exhaust gas mixes with oil vapour and bakes onto the intake and inlet manifold. That build-up chokes airflow and causes rough running, lost power and higher consumption, long before anything actually fails. It is one of the most common causes of a modern diesel feeling flat.
Our in-house intake carbon-cleaning process dissolves and removes that build-up without removing the head, restoring airflow and throttle response. This is a real machine-driven process, not a bottle of additive, and we photograph the before and after so you can see exactly what came out.
Where an intake and EGR carbon clean is paired with a custom diesel tune, the result is verified live on our in-house dyno, so you get a measured gain, not a guess.

Fuel-system cleaning and diesel bug treatment
The diesel bug is microbial growth at the fuel and water interface in a diesel tank. It forms the grey-matter sludge shown below, blocks filters, corrodes components and starves the engine of clean fuel. Left untreated, it keeps clogging filters no matter how often you change them.
We treat it with a fuel-system clean that clears the contamination, then fit 2-micron filtration that stops it recurring by catching the water and particulates the factory filter misses. For the deeper injector work, see diesel injector cleaning, and to protect a clean fuel system long-term, ask about our Elite fuel filter kits.

Blocked DPF? We clean it, we don't delete it
A blocked or failing DPF on a road-registered vehicle does not have to mean an expensive replacement or an illegal delete. A professional DPF regeneration clean restores the existing filter, keeps the vehicle legal and roadworthy, and costs from $550, a fraction of replacement. This is the highest-value decision in the whole cluster, so we make the honest call: a filter blocked with ash and soot is cleaned, but a cracked or melted substrate needs replacement, and we will tell you which you have.
The legal line matters. DPF and EGR removal is offered for non-registered, off-road and competition vehicles only. For a registered vehicle the clean is the path, full stop. See the deep detail on DPF cleaning from $550, or, for an off-road build, DPF delete for off-road and non-registered vehicles.
Why Adelaide diesel owners choose Trusted Mechanical
- Cleaned in-house, not sent away. The work is done on-site in Lonsdale, and where a tune is involved it is verified live on our in-house chassis dyno.
- RAA Approved Repairer. RAA judges us on knowledge, skills and equipment, audits us regularly, and holds us to a fair-pricing promise: we will not charge you for work that was not needed.
- We photograph your service and send you the images. The before and after on a diesel clean is genuinely worth seeing, and you get it.
- All work fully guaranteed, with a 6-month or 10,000km service warranty.
- Free loan cars while your vehicle is with us. A loan form and a current licence apply, with the full terms on our guarantees and loan-car terms page.
- Honest assessment first. If a clean will not fix it (a melted DPF substrate needs replacement, not cleaning), we tell you straight.

Diesel cleaning FAQs
It removes carbon and deposits from the intake, EGR path, injectors, fuel system and DPF in place, restoring airflow, fuelling and the regeneration cycle. The result is more power, better economy, less smoke and cleared warning lights, without stripping or replacing major parts.
It depends which clean your diesel needs. DPF regeneration cleaning starts from $550, a fraction of replacement cost. Injector and fuel-system cleaning is quoted on the vehicle. Tell us the symptoms and we will quote the right service.
Yes. Our DPF regeneration cleaning restores a blocked or failing filter in place, keeping a road-registered vehicle legal and roadworthy, from $550, far cheaper than an OEM replacement.
It is microbial growth at the fuel and water interface in a diesel tank that forms a sludge, blocks filters and corrodes components. We treat it with a fuel-system clean and fit 2-micron filtration to stop it returning.
Usually yes, when deposits were the cause. Clearing carbon from the intake, injectors and DPF restores proper airflow and fuelling, which most owners feel as better throttle response and lower real-world consumption.
Yes. Intake and EGR carbon build-up is one of the biggest causes of lost power on modern diesels. We clean it in place with a dedicated process, no head removal required.
On a road-registered vehicle, clean it. A DPF delete is illegal on public roads and is only offered for off-road or non-registered vehicles. A professional clean restores the filter and keeps you legal.
